Dr. Raghu Raj Kaphle

Vice Chairman

Raghu Raj Kaphle is the Vice-Chairperson of the Province Policy and Planning Commission of Gandaki Province since 20th June 2021. He was born on 1st October 1975 in Tanahun. He holds a Doctorate in Economics and an M. Phil and MA in Economics from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, Nepal. Further, he has also completed BEd.

 

Mr. Kaphle started his professional career as a public school teacher in 1994. Later, he joined a public college as a faculty of Economics and served for more than a decade. In the public college, he also served as the department head and assistant campus chief for six years. In the meantime, he was also teaching Economics in private colleges. During his teaching career, he supervised dissertations.  In 2002, he joined a local government and led various projects funded by UNDP, UNICEF, DFID, NORAD, and others as a team leader. During that period, he launched various programs addressing poverty alleviation, employment generation, and social reform. In 2014, he joined the Foreign Employment Board as an Executive Director and served for four years. He led various projects funded by UN-WOMEN, SDC, ILO, IOM, etc. on labor and migration-related issues.

Mr. Kaphle has contributed to policy formation and planning from the local to national level. He has conducted and published research papers and been involved in various government research and study teams. He had diligently served as a team leader and member of the team formed by the Government of Nepal on labor and employment-related issues. He has led Nepali delegates in international negotiation meetings and has also organized international meetings. He has his expertise in the areas of labor migration, local governance, social inclusion, and poverty alleviation and has drafted policies and conducted research and planning as an expert in governmental and non-governmental organizations. He has traveled to various countries and been involved in regional and international programs. He is familiar with different econometric tools and can also handle advanced computer programs.
